Uptown 8
Weight: 31.75 lbs
MSRP: $1160 3.3 stars (4 reviews)Bicycling Review
Issue: Jun 2009
Page: 86 Editorial Review
Breezers often cost a little more than comparable bikes, but as soon as you start rolling on one, you understand why. Designer Joe Breeze sweats the ride-feel of his commuter bikes to an astonishing degree, placing the rider in the most comfortable yet efficient position. The Uptown 8's fatter tires and suspension seatpost keep you at ease as you roll over potholes, gravel and other obstacles. Each of our finalists is loaded with all the accessories a commuter needs, including a rear rack, fenders, chainguard and hub-powered front light. If price is your primary consideration, the Novara Fusion may be your bike. If you want urban styling, the Specialized Globe may suit you. For us, the ride is the thing--and the Uptown 8 is tops.

GHD Kiss Pink Styler Straighteners (Report Abuse) Review By Evad the Slayer, Rides for Transportation:I own one of these bikes. Beware, if you get a rear flat it is almost impossible to remove the wheel and re-attach. Why? Because Shimano did a horrid design of their Nexus hub attachment. It takes literally 4 hands to re-attach the connection wire and struggle to get the wheel pushed far enough back to give the chain proper tension. This bike is now collecting dust in my garage as I don't want to have a flat 10 miles from home. Also, the 5th gear shifting is really poor. Often I have to shift up from 4th to 6th and then back down to get to 5th. Again, I blame Shimano for not engineering their own products. I will bet money that whoever designed this hub couldn't change a rear flat in less than an hour and need help to boot. Finally the bike rides like a rock because it is alum. I recently purchased a Surly Long Haul Trucker and it is twice as smooth, simple to service and cheaper than the Breez (Report Abuse) Review By Mike, Rides for Transportation:I test rode a breezer but liked the feel of the gary fisher simple city 8 better. The simple city feels more solid and has 700c wheels. The gf also has the killer integrated front large basket and the dual kickstand to keep the bike straight up while I load/unload groceries. More bang for the buck and a higher quality ride than the breezer (Report Abuse)
